Jennifer Ann Zucco possessed a great intellectual and spiritual passion for flowers. From an early age, the magic and beauty of gardens was nurtured by generations of family members, especially her grandfather “Pop” Warner (John E. Warner Sr.). During her late teens and 20’s, Jennifer’s breadth of knowledge exploded exponentially as she worked professionally on a daily basis in floral and landscape designs ventures. Her eyes and mind sparkled as she personally handled what she perceived as one of nature’s perfect gifts, the flower. The breathtaking vibrancy of color, the delicate translucence of its petals, and the sheer volume of the plant itself mesmerized Jennifer’s creative spirit and lead to many wonderful works of art.

“In The Iris Garden” is a perfect example of Jennifer’s innate ability to capture the enchanted beauty of simple home gardens and her old world style of painting that visually invites viewers and fellow painters to contemplate the marvels of everyday life. This particular oil painting on canvas, created three years prior to her death, depicts a dear friend of Jennifer’s, Victoria Preston, while she was tending to her personal iris garden. Victoria and her husband, Robert (an acclaimed international concert pianist who was a virtuoso performer of Rachmaninoff, a favorite composer of Jennifer’s) shared many hours of dynamic conversation about the arts, philosophy and of course, gardening.

“Five Friends” is a delightful oil painting on canvas of a welcoming group of cows doing what they do best; graze in a rolling New England pasture. Their curious and friendly ways are meticulously and enchantingly capture by artist Kitty Zucco. The image of these cows ignited Kitty’s imagination and guided her paintbrush in an effortless and enormously pleasurable and fun painting experience. For those of us who find ourselves traveling through rural countryside, the welcoming site of these docile and endearing creatures surely brings a smile to all who have had the pleasure of witnessing these animals at play and home in their simple and tranquil living environment. Kitty simply stated, “I had so much fun painting this oil canvas. It was truly a joy on so many levels.”

“Five Friends” interestingly, also acted as the primary catalyst in the creation of the Zucco Fine Art Gallery. A little over a year after my sister artist Jennifer Ann Zucco succumbed to cancer, Kitty (Jennifer’s mother) exhibited this new painting in a Naples Florida art show. This particular work of art was received with such excitement, the question of Giclee’s (the making fine art reproductions) came to the forefront. Since Jennifer’s passing, my personal quest to determine how to record my sister’s extensive portfolio of artwork finally found a solution. With the guidance of the Marylu Homes, owner of the reputable G&H Printing, the process of recording both Jennifer and Kitty’s artwork began. The end result, and with great pride I must say, the Zucco Fine Art Gallery opened its doors to a worldwide audience with the straightforward goal of sharing the marvelous talents of this uniquely gifted family.

“Daffodils”, a floral still life oil painting on canvas created in 1993 by artist Jennifer Ann Zucco, illustrates the essence of Jennifer’s inner vision as an artist. Her impressionistic old world style of painting clearly resonates in depicting a painterly vision which leaves viewers with a sense of the beauty of each item on the canvas.

Jennifer’s joy in exploring the beauty flowers with oils and pastels is a reoccurring theme in Jennifer’s portfolio of artwork. From a young age gardening, the growing of flowers, learning all she could about flowers and the best circumstance for their growth and evolution led her to an active career in landscape garden design and several years of providing floral design work for brides. The bridal bouquets provided continued close exploration and evaluation of beautiful flowers by their shape, color and texture. Jennifer constantly strived to learn brush stroke technique in her floral still life and garden paintings to give a genuine reality to one of nature’s special gifts to mankind.

“5 Mile River”, a complex plein air pastel drawn in 1952 by Weston Morley Geety (fondly called Morley by family and friends), is truly representative of this artist’s creative hand. Being a native of the Connecticut and New York shoreline along the Long Island Sound, much of Morley’s artwork reflects daily scenes of life appreciative of the abounding and intimate harbor details of several exclusive Fairfield County townships. This particular pastel which is a family favorite, rich in color and stroke detail, reveals life along the 5 Mile River in Rowayton Connecticut from a vantage point in the Tokeneke area of Darien. This timeless image, which could be representative of any small harbor hamlet, reveals a vision of this 21st century sophisticated community almost 60 years back in time when life was more rural, simpler and serenely less complex.

This delightful plein air landscape was painted by Jennifer around 2004. Although not dated, the free impressionistic style of painting is characteristic of her later style of painting, particularly when her easel was step-up for an invigorating day of outdoor painting. Her dynamic palette of vibrant colors of nature combined with an uninhibited brush stroke manages to portray this typical rural countryside scene with a knowing familiarity that leaves viewers with a sense of genuine comfort in daily life.

Jennifer and her mother, Kitty Zucco, shared many hours of plein air painting together especially in the last years of Jennifer’s life. Kitty recalls her daughter’s genuine delight while painting this canvas in being able to “take in” a scene and be able to capture it in a matter of a few hours, taking full advantage of the atmospheric conditions and the impact of light on this scene.

This figurative seascape/landscape sunset painting was inspired by a photograph taken by daughter and fellow artist Jennifer Ann Zucco of a sunset in the Harborview district of Norwalk on the Connecticut coastline. “Sunsets are a genuine pleasure for me to paint. Learning to paint how “light” impacts everything around us is why I love being an artist. The reflective qualities of the evening sun on any coastal waters are a site to behold. In this painting, capturing the menacing nature of these dark moisture laden clouds in this restive scene of color was an exciting experience to explore.”

Our online fine art gallery was created little over a year ago to present a truly unique collection of artwork by artists from three generations of painters from one family. Family members Weston Morley Geety, Kitty Zucco and Jennifer Ann Zucco have created extensive portfolios of art which has scanned and is representative of their life time. You can witness and come understand from our presentation of work in our gallery and the subsequent dialogue about the artwork you view on our blog that these artist possessed an innate and ultimately genetic love of color, texture and shape that compelled them to explore nature’s pallet of colors with the various mediums available to each artist over the 20th and beginning 21st century.

As the owner of the Zucco Fine Art Gallery I am dedicating myself to encouraging the sole surviving artist of the trio of painters, Kitty Zucco, and friends of artist Jennifer Ann Zucco to share their thoughts on what was happening with each artist as they were in the process of creating specific pieces of artwork. This unique insight to the how’s, what’s and why artist do what they do particularly within the confines of three generations of one family should provide compelling acuity to how the gift of artistic expression is passed on not only through genetics , but also by living shared life experiences so unique to family life.
